Mark Wood’s sore heel hasn’t fully recovered in time for him to play in the third Test match between England and South Africa at the Kia Oval. Middlesex seamer Toby Roland-Jones is in line to make his debut, whilst his county teammate Steven Finn has been called up as back-up for the Test that starts tomorrow.
Wood, who is yet to play three consecutive Tests in the same series in his career, was carrying the injury at Trent Bridge and looked to be bowling short of his full pace. His replacement in the XI, Roland-Jones, has been picked in numerous England squads before without actually playing a Test. He and Tom Westley are now both in line to make their debuts, and they could yet be joined by Dawid Malan should England decide to play an additional batsman instead of Liam Dawson.
